Film veteran Duffy Hudson brings his talent and fascination for Edgar Allan Poe to life in a unique one-man play on Wednesday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The Shadow of the Raven begins as Edgar Allan Poe rises from the scene of his mysterious death and continues as he pieces together the events of his life. Using a combination of biographical information and the dramatic interpretation of Poe’s literature, Annabel Lee, The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart, Hudson provides a unique, in-depth theatrical experience of the life and works of one of America’s best-known and enigmatic personalities. Be sure this event is on your calendar!
The afternoon movie on Thursday, August 9 will be “The Lorax” which will show at 1:30 p.m. The film is rated PG and is 86 minutes; please bring your own drink, we’ll provide the popcorn.
A new suspense book is “Counterfeit Road” by Kirk Russell. Twenty-two years to the day, a videotape of an unsolved 1989 murder arrives at the San Francisco Homicide Detail. So begins homicide inspector Ben Raveneau’s toughest cold case. He soon realizes something dark is rapidly evolving – but, who can he convince? Can he, his partner, and a lone FBI agent stop it?

New on the non-fiction shelf: “The Truck Food Cookbook: 150 Recipes and Ramblings from America’s Best Restaurants on Wheels” by John T. Edge and “Like No Other Place: the Sandhills of Nebraska” by David A. Owen.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books: “Drizzle” by Kathleen Van Cleve, “Love, Aubrey” by Suzanne LaFleur and “Bridge of Time” by Lewis Buzbee.
