The first of three “Books & Bites” programs will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at noon. Bring your lunch and let’s talk books!

Thursday, June 20 the movie will be “Jack the Giant Slayer.” This film is rated PG and 114 minutes and tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend, and gets the chance to become a legend himself. The library provides the popcorn; please bring your own drink.

John LeCarre’s new novel is “A Delicate Truth.” A counter-terrorist operation with the codename Wildfire was mounted on the British Crown Colony of Gibraltar; now three-years later a disgraced Special Forces soldier delivers a message from the dead. Was Operation Wildfire the success it was cracked up to be – or a human tragedy that was ruthlessly covered up? This title is also available through OneClick Digital.

The newest Theodore Boone book, “The Activist” by John Grisham is also now available.

New non-fiction includes “Frozen in Time: an Epic Story of Survival and a Modern Quest for Lost Heroes of World War II” by Mitchell Zuckoff, “30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans” by Karl A. Pillemer, Ph.D. and “Paper Blooms: 25 Extraordinary Flowers to Make for Weddings, Celebrations, and More” by Jeffery Rudell.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles: “Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Graceful Ice Princess” and “Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Popular Party Girl” by Rachel Renee Russell. Some new picture books are “This is Not My Hat” by Jon Klassen and “The Matchbox Diary” by Paul Fleischman.
