We are pleased to have actor, Duffy Hudson return with a performance of Houdini’s life. The one-man show will be Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m., mark your calendars now!


“The Boss Baby” will be shown on Thursday, July 27 at 1 p.m. “The Boss Baby” is a hilarious story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of an unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative seven-year-old named Tim. The film is rated PG and 97 minutes. The library provides the popcorn; please bring your own drinks.


“Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate is a novel that is based on a real-life scandal. Twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her four younger siblings lived a magical life aboard their family’s Mississippi River shanty boat. Then one stormy night after their dad had rushed their mother to the hospital strangers came and took them away. They were thrown into a Tennessee children’s orphanage where they were at the mercy of the facility’s cruel director, who kidnaps and sells poor children to wealthy families.


Other new fiction books are “Beyond Reason” by Kat Martin, “G-Man” by Stephen Hunter, “You Will Pay” by Lisa Jackson, “Full Wolf Moon” by Lincoln Child, “White Fur” by Jardine Libaire, “The Valley Ranch War” by J.E. Terrall, “Not a Sound” by Heather Gudenkauf, “Nighthawk” by Clive Cussler and “Rabbit Cake” by Annie Hartnett. A new book in the YA section is the third book in the “Silver” trilogy, “Just Dreaming” by Kerstin Gier.


New non-fiction titles are “American Eclipse: a Nation’s Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World” by David Baron, “The Boy Who Knew Too Much: an Astounding True Story of a Young Boy’s Past-life Memories” by Cathy Byrd and “Modern Triangle Quilts: 70 Graphic Triangle Blocks, 11 Bold Samplers” by Rebecca Bryan.


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “The Castle in the Mist” by Amy Ephron, “Daydream Receiver” based on the books by Jack Maddox and a new series entitled “Unicorn Riders” by Aleesah Darlison. Some new picture books are “Baking with Dad” by Aurora Cacciapuoti, “If You Ever Want to Bring a Circus to the Library, Don’t!” by Elise Parsley and “Goldfish Ghost” by Lemony Snicket.


“Lights at Night!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday for children age 3 through kindergarten. Call 334-3274 to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
