“Max 2” will be shown on Thursday, August 3 at 1 p.m. Max returns with a new assignment that brings him to Washington, D. C. to serve on the President’s Secret Service detail. When a foreign leader arrives with his daughter, Alex, tensions arise between the two countries. First Son, T. J., along with Max and Alex uncover a dangerous plot that puts both kids - and both nations in jeopardy. The film is rated PG and is 85 minutes. The library provides the popcorn, please bring your own drinks.


Actor Duffy Hudson returns to the library on Wednesday, August 9 performing as Harry Houdini. In “Houdini: His Life, His Magic!” the audience will learn about Houdini’s life, his escapes and magic and even a few secrets.


Wednesday, August 16 Astronomer Kevin Manning will present the program, “An All American Total Eclipse” at 7 p.m. This program is family friendly and will include viewing the night sky through a powerful hand-crafted telescope (weather permitting).


A novel by a new author is “Miss You” by Kate Eberlen. Tess was in Florence, Italy on an idyllic vacation before starting at the University in London. Gus is there on a holiday with his parents before heading to medical school in London. A chance meeting brings these two eighteen year-olds together for a brief moment – the first of many times their paths will cross over the next sixteen years - but connecting once again seems slight…unless fate has other plans.


Other new fiction books are “A Hiss Before Dying” by Rita Mae Brown, “Cold Welcome” by Elizabeth Moon, “Remington, 1894” by William W. Johnstone, “Grief Cottage” by Gail Godwin, “Love & Death in Burgundy” by Susan C. Shea, “Gwendy’s Button Box” by Stephen King, “The Sixth Victim” by Tessa Harris, “The Space Between Sisters” by Mary McNear and “Camino Island” by John Grisham. “Always and Forever, Lara Jean” is a new YA title by Jenny Han.


“Mask the Sun: the Science, History, and Forgotten Lore of Eclipses” by John Dvorak is among new non-fiction titles along with “The Inner Life of Cats: the Science and Secrets of Our Mysterious Feline Companions” by Thomas McNamee and “Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…and Maybe the World” by Admiral William H. McRaven (U.S. Navy Retired).


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “Gabriela Speaks Out” by Teresa E. Harris, “The Unexpected Life of Oliver Cromwell Pitts” by Avi and new interactive “You Choose” series by Stephen Brezenoff with titles like “The Outlaw from Outer Space.” A few of the newer easy titles include “I Like, I Don’t Like” by Anna Baccelliere, “The Thing Lou Couldn’t Do” by Ashley Spires and “Leap’s Snack” by Suzanne Barchers.


Storyhour on Tuesday, August 1 will focus on the “Fair” with stories and blue-ribbon craft fun! Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for children age 3 through kindergarten. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
