The library’s afterschool programs begin Monday, August 27 for K-2 grades and Tuesday, August 28 for 3-6 grades. The programs begin right after school and end at 4:40 p.m. and continue through October 29 and 30. “Russian Culture” is the theme for K-2 and Miss Tina, a Russian scholar, has a variety of crafts and activities planned, including learning some of the Russian language. On Tuesday’s, “Catch A Clue” is the theme for grades 3-6 and Miss Barb has mysteries to solve! There will be some science as well as crafts and activities. Call the library at 334-3490 to register your children as space is limited!

Douglas Preston’s newest novel is “The Pharaoh Key.” A code-breaking machine at EES has cracked the long-awaited translation of a stone tablet, the Phaistos Disk, that dates back to an otherwise completely unknown ancient civilization. The mysteries of the message hint at incredible treasures and perhaps a world-altering secret but as Gideon Crew and Manual Garza soon discover – some missions are more dangerous than others.

Other new fiction books “The Nightmare” by Lars Kepler, “To the Moon and Back” by Karen Kingsbury, “Rough Justice” by Kelley Armstrong, “Evil Never Sleeps” by William W. Johnstone, “Probable Claws” Rita Mae Brown, “Beach House Reunion” by Mary Alice Monroe, “Drop by Drop” by Morgan Llywelyn, “Rainy Day Friends” by Jill Shalvis and “Unbridled” by Diana Palmer. “Shadow Watch” by Wyoming author, S.A. Klopfenstein is among new young adult titles.

“Woman of the Cavalcade: an Epic True Story” by Edith Eudora Kohl along with “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations” by John McCain and “Low-mess crafts for kids: 72 projects to create your own magical worlds” by Debbie Chapman are now available in new non-fiction section.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles, “Class Action” by Steven B. Frank, “Bat and the Waiting Game” by Elana K. Arnold and “The Ambrose Deception” by Emily Ecton. A few of the newer easy books are “Shark Detective” by Jessica Olien, “Not Friends” by Rebecca Bender and “The Moon Man” by Isabel Harris.

“School Daze!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year. Call 334-3274 to hear a recorded story anytime. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
