The Friends of the Library have been selected as one of several (Reading is Fundamental) RIF programs throughout the nation to receive an additional collection of books for giveaway. This opportunity is made possible locally through a partnership with RIF, Holiday Inn Express of Douglas, WY and Scholastic, Inc. The Friends of the Library will celebrate with a “Back-to-School RIF” at the library on Wednesday, August 29 at 6:30 p.m. Performer, “Rattlesnake Jake” will be on hand to entertain and books will be given away! Thursday afternoon movies continue through August 23. “Flushed Away” will be shown on August 2 at 1 p.m. This film is rated PG and is 90 minutes.
“Lawman” by Diane Palmer is new in the library. In this fiction novel, FBI agent Garon Grier’s search for a dangerous convict leads him to Grace Carver; who has a past that everyone knows about but no one talks about, will he be able to keep her safe? Other new titles include “Double Take” by Catherine Coulter, Woody Allen’s newest, “Mere Anarchy” is a humorous collection of 18 stories and “Robert Ludlum’s the Bourne Betrayal” by Eric Van Lustbader is in as well as “The Good Guy” by Dean Koontz and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini.
New adult non-fiction books include “The Reagan Diaries” by Ronald Reagan, “At the Center of the Storm: My Years at the CIA” by George Tenet and “The Day the World Ended at Little Big Horn: a Lakota History” by Joseph M. Marshall.
New titles for the young adults are “Played” by Dana Davidson and “Photo Finish” by Matthew Reilly. Young adult titles are currently being showcased in the library, stop in and take a look.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books, “The Case of the Snowboarding Super Star” by James Preller, “The Vanishing Passenger” by Gertrude Chandler Warner and “The Neighborhood Stink”/ by Dave Keane. New picture books include “Little Tad Grows Up” by Giuliano Ferri, “I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean” by Kevin Sherry and “The Day the Stones Walked: a Tale of Easter Island” by T. A. Barron.
“County Fair” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 and Thursday, August 9, 2007. Storyhour is now held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 p.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
