The library will be closed on Monday, May 25th, 2009 for Memorial Day, regular summer hours resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26.

The Summer Reading program “Be Creative @ Your Library” will begin on Wednesday, June 3 and continue through mid-July. This program is sure to include lots of good reading and activities. Call now to register your children and for more information!

Thank you Niobrara County High School Future Business Leaders of America for your support of library programming this past year. All of your volunteer efforts are appreciated by everyone involved and at the library. Best of luck to those graduating!

Did you know that the library has a variety of audio books? These items can be checked out for two weeks and are perfect for many occasions. Audio books can also be downloaded for free to your portable players or computer by going to the library website. Music CD’s are also available to checkout as well as visual media. Stop by and browse the collection.

A new mystery book is “Fatally Flaky” by Diane Mott Davidson. Doc Finn, best friend of caterer Goldy Schulz’s godfather, Jack is killed when his car tumbles into a ravine. Jack believes Doc was murdered because of the research he was doing at the Gold Gulch Spa. Then Jack is attacked. Goldy takes charge and dons chef’s whites and goes undercover at the spa — where a clever killer watches her every move. Other new fiction includes “Smooth Talking Stranger” by Lisa Kleypas, “The Messenger” by Jan Burke, “One Day At a Time” by Danielle Steel, “Imager” by L. E. Modesitt, Jr., “The Last Dickens” by Matthew Pearl and “Cedar Green” by Rose Boucheron.

New non-fiction books are “In Praise of Stay-At-Home Moms” by Laura Schlessinger and “Fractal Time: the Secret of 2012 and the New World Age” by Gregg Braden. “Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Crafts: an A-Z Guide with Detailed Instructions and Endless Inspiration” is also available.

New for young adults is the third in the Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series, “City of Glass.” The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library is the home to these new chapter books “Dr. Maniac vs Robby Schwartz” by R. L. Stine and “Pirates at Noon” by Mary Pope Osborne. New picture books are “Battle at Teth” by Kirsten Mayer, “Theodore and the Talking Mushroom” by Leo Lionni and “Batman Versus the Joker” by N. T. Raymond.

“May I ?!?” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 28. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
