Call now to register your children for the winter session of Afterschool Programs. Children in the first and second grades will meet on Tuesdays beginning January 5 and continuing through February 23. Third, fourth and fifth grades will gather on Thursdays beginning January 7 and continuing through February 25. Both sessions begin at 3:20 and will feature “Puppets!” in a variety of forms. Thomas Kinkade’s newest book is “A Wish for Christmas.” Jack Bradshaw’s son, David, has returned home from serving in Afghanistan. However, David’s physical injuries and psychological issues are making it hard for him to join in the cheer of the holiday season, but Christmas often brings unexpected gifts that will never be forgotten.

New adult non-fiction books are “How to Raise the Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond” by Cesar Millan, “1001 Children’s Books You Must Read before You Grow Up” edited by Julie Eccleshare and “The Templars: the History and the Myth” by Michael Haag.
A new book for the young adult is “Ballad: a Gathering of Faerie” by Maggie Stiefvater.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books: “The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma” by Trenton Lee Stewart, “Stormy Weather” by Debi Gliori, “Skipingo Home” by Jane Lyon and “Dewey: There’s a Cat in the Library” by Vicki Myron.
“Happy New Year!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, December 29. The library will be closed on December 31 and there will be no Storyhour. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
