The library will be closed on Sunday, February 14th and Monday, February 15th, 2010 in observance of President’s Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, February 16th at 10 a.m.
On Monday, February 22 at 6 p.m. the library will show the film, “In the Land of the Head Hunters” (aka “In the Land of the War Canoes”). Famed photographer and featured character in “Wife of Moon,” Edward S. Curtis wrote and directed the silent film in 1915. This is the first feature-length film to exclusively star Native Americans and overlays three plot elements: a melodramatic love triangle, a series of aboriginal battles and a range of Kwakwakawaka ceremonial performances. The evening includes a light meal and discussion facilitated by Deane Tucker, Professor of Humanities at Chadron State College, the discussion will also include participants from Wyoming Women’s Center.
Check out this new historical fiction novel, “London in Chains” by Gillian Bradshaw. Lucy Wentnor, a young woman from the midlands hopes to start afresh in London in 1647. She finds a job in one of the few booming businesses – publishing, an industry which the breakdown of the licensing system and censorship has left free as never before… sure to be a read you’ll enjoy!

On the new nonfiction shelf there is: “Everything Will Be All Right: a Memoir” by Douglas Wallace, “Wyoming: Crossroads of a Continent” (2nd edition) by Patsy Parkin, “Homesteading: a Backyard Guide to Growing Your Own Food, Canning, Keeping Chickens, Generating Your Own Energy, Crafting Herbal Medicines, and More” edited by Abigail R. Gehring.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new titles: “Junie B. Jones First Grader: Aloha-ha-ha” by Barbara Park, “The Silver Horse Switch” by Alison Lester and “Princess Ellie’s Royal Jamboree” by Diana Kimpton. As well as “Snack Time” by Stephen Krensky, “Duke’s Mission” by Michael Teitelbaum, “What’s New on the Farm” by Catherine Nichols and “Norton Saves the Day” by Bernadette Kelly.
“Colors” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, February 18. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
