Monday, March 29 the film “Skins” will be shown at 6 p.m. complete with a light meal and discussion. “Skins” features character Rudy Yellow Lodge, who is an investigator with the police department and finds himself on a quest to avenge himself, his family and his culture after the discovery of a bloodied body, a flaming liquor store and his brother’s self-destruction. “Skins” was filmed on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and features actors Graham Greene, Gary Farmer and Noah Watts. This is the third film in the four film Niobrara County Reads series. For more information call the library at 334-3490.
Tuesday, March 30 Marcia Hensley will present a program on her book, “Staking her Claim” at the library at noon. This is a brown bag lunch program and attendees are invited to bring their lunch.
“Deep Creek” by Dana Hand is a historical thriller inspired by the 1887 massacre of more than 30 Chinese miners in the remote and beautiful Hells Canyon of Idaho Territory. Lawman Joe Vincent is hired to solve the case. He journeys up the wild Snake River with Lee Loi, an ambitious young company investigator and Grace Sundown, a mountain guide with too many secrets. As they track the killers across the Pacific Northwest, each one has to put aside lies and old grievances to survive a quest that will change them forever.
Other new fiction books include “Education of Madeline” by Beth Williamson, “Brick Layer” by Noah Boyd, “Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt” by Beth Hoffman, “Worse Case” by James Patterson, “The Heavenstone Secrets” by V.C. Andrews and “The Burning Land” by Bernard Cornwell. New YA fiction includes “Boys, Girls, and Other Hazardous Materials” by Rosalind Wiseman.
New adult non-fiction books are “The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich” by Timothy Ferriss, “Open: an Autobiography” by Andre Agassi and “Anti-Cancer: a New Way of Life” by David Servan-Schreiber, M.D. Ph.D.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles: “Oath Breaker” and “Spirit Walker” by Michelle Paver plus “Secrets at Sea” by Sabre Moore. New easy titles are “Henry in Love” by Peter McCarty, “The Case of the Whatever Blues” by Suzanne Kline, “Easter in Hardwick” by Reverend W. Awdry and “Sleepy ABC” by Margaret Wise.
“Meek as a Lamb!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, March 30 and Thursday, April 1. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
