The library will be closed on Monday, February 21, 2011 in observance of President’s Day, regular hours resume on Tuesday.
Wednesday, February 23 the film National Velvet will be shown at 3:30 p.m. as part of the Steed Reads Festival @ the Library. An Academy Award�-winning classic, this film is about two children (Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney), their passion for a horse and their determination to train in order to win the famed Grand National race. The film is 125 minutes and not rated; the library will provide popcorn, bring your own drink.
A new book by Jude Deveraux is “The Scent of Jasmine.” Catherine Edilean Harcourt’s adventurous spirit is piqued while visiting her bedridden godfather in Charleston in 1799. He asks her to fill in for him on an urgent task: she is to deliver a packed horse to Alexander McDowell, an old friend’s son, on her way to a fancy dress ball. When the plan fails, Cay finds herself riding blind into the night with Alexander, who is also an escaped convict and fleeing from his captors.
Other new fiction books include “The Radleys” by Matt Haig, “Promise Canyon” by Robyn Carr, “The Outlaws” by W.E.B. Griffin, “Home Free” by Fern Michaels, “The Judas Gate” by Jack Higgins and “The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise” by Julie Stewart. A new title for the young adult is “Shadow Land” by Alyson Noel.
New non-fiction books are “Making Divorce Work: 8 Essential Keys to Resolving Conflict and Rebuilding Your Life” by Diana Mercer, “Blue Lines: a Fishing Life” by Tom Reed and “Quilts Are Forever: a Patchwork Collection of Inspirational Stories” by Kathy Lamancusa.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new titles by Jake Maddox: “Pit Crew Crunch”, “Lacrosse Attack”, “Paintball Invasion” and “Tennis Liar” plus “The Amazing Mystery Show” by Gertrude Chandler Warner. New picture books include “June’s Tune” by Sindy McKay, “I Do Not Do Greens” by Paul Orshoski and “Look and Find: Cars: What’s Different.”
