Have you registered your children for the Summer Reading program? Stop by the library or call today for the “Dream Big” program which begins on Wednesday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. for children who have completed the first through fifth grades.

“The Secret World of Arrietty” is the first of the summer afternoon movie series which begins on Thursday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. Arrietty and the rest of the Clock family live in peaceful anonymity as they make their home from items that they borrow from the house’s human inhabitants. However, life changes for the Clocks when a human boy discovers Arrietty. The 94 minute film is rated G; the library will provide popcorn but please bring your own beverage.

John Grisham’s new novel is “Calico Joe.” In the summer of 1973, Joe Castle from Calico Rock, Arkansas was the boy wonder of baseball, the greatest rookie anyone had ever seen. Calico Joe quickly became the idol of every baseball fan in America including Paul Tracy, the young son of Mets pitcher, Warren Tracy. On the day Warren finally faced Calico Joe, Paul was in the stand rooting for his idol but also for his dad. Then Warren threw a fast ball that would change all their lives forever. “Calico Joe” is also available as a cdbook and in the Virtual Library.

Other new fiction books include “Second to None” by Stella Cameron, “Derby Day” by D. J. Taylor, “Betrayal” by Christina Dodd, “The Inquisitor” by Mark Allen Smith, “The Shoemaker’s Wife” by Adriana Trigiani, “The Burying Place” by Brian Freeman, “The Fiddler” by Beverly Lewis and “Crystal Gardens” by Amanda Quick. Cornelia Funke’s “Ghost Knight” is available on the YA shelf.

New non-fiction books are “Drift: the Unmooring of American Military Power” by Rachel Maddow, “Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest Challenges” by Deepak Chopra and “Finance and the Good Society” by Robert J. Shiller.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books: “The Unseen Guest” by Maryrose Wood, “Relay Race Breakdown” by Jake Maddox and “Crocodile Attack” by Justin D’Ath. Also available, “The Great Divide” by Suzanne Slade and “3, 2, 1 Liftoff!” by Sonia Sander.
