A new military history novel is “Ghosts of Bungo Suido” by P. T. Deutermann. In late 1944, America’s recapture of the Philippines is jeopardized by what seems like an insurmountable threat from Japan’s heavily defended and mined Island Sea – a carrier of the size that could disrupt the entire invasion. No American submarine has been able to penetrate the Island Sea and five boats and their crews have perished in and around the main entrance strait known as Bungo Suido. Admiral Nemitz decides to try one more time. Commander Gar Hammond of the Dragon Fish becomes the Navy’s only hope to locate and stop the Japanese super-ship before it escapes into the open Pacific. This novel is also available on CD.
