The first part of the year, Banditti on the Plains was a One Book Niobrara Read and historian Rick Kaan had been scheduled to speak but was unable to attend at the time. He will share his Banditti research on Wednesday, October 7 at 6 p.m.at the library. His research has led him to similar cattle wars in Montana and Texas; he will discuss how they tied into the Cattleman’s Invasion in Wyoming. Plan to attend!
The second book in the “Organized Crime” book discussion series, “Carlo Gambino, Boss of Bosses” will be discussed on Monday, October 5 at 6 p.m.
Call the library at 307-334-3490 to register for the October Paint @ the Library which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14 from 1-3 p.m. Children under the age of 10 should be accompanied by an adult.
“Sunrise” is Téa Obreht’s latest novel. In 2024 Nina’s small-engine plane crashes into a lake in the Wyoming mountains. Her boyfriend Ben, who was flying it, is nowhere to be found. Nina, lost and freezing, is armed with a few old protein bars, a phone with no service, and only a vague hope of rescue. Then she stumbles upon Sunrise – a town of the old west, seemingly abandoned yet strangely well maintained – a place that holds the missing link to a ghost story 100 years in the making. “Sunrise” is also available digitally in Libby.
Other new fiction books are “Born in Fire” by K. F. Breene, “The Final Appeal” by James Chandler, “Falling into You” by Jill Shalvis, “Delusional” by James Patterson, “The Perfect Fit” by Sadie Kincaid, “Backtrack” by Marc Cameron and “The Boat House” by Fern Michaels. New books on the young adult shelf are “The Weaver Bride” by Lydia Gregovic and “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” by Liara Tamani.
Among newer non-fiction books is “History of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad ‘Cowboy Line’” compiled by Terry Sandstrom.
The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior novels “Stories of Adventure” created by Laura Ingalls Wilder and “The Mystery of Mystic Mountain” by Janet Fox. Some of the newer easy books are “I Used to Be a Dinosaur” by Casey Lyall, “Once Upon a Tail” by Audrey Perrott, “Rosie gets Ready” by Sergio Ruzzier and “Turtle Slept In” by Jacob Grant.
“Marbled Leaves” is the theme for Storyhour on October 6, 2026. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. The Friends of the Library sponsor the 24/7 storyline, Dial-A-Story. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story!
