The library will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2017 for Memorial Day. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.

Friday, June 2 plan to attend the “Build a Better World” Puppet Show featuring Meghan Casey of Rocky Mountain Puppets at 2 p.m. The show is for the whole family and sure to entertain!

It’s time to register your children for the library’s summer reading program! Call 334-3490 or drop by. Lots of fun projects (castles, puppets & more) are planned for the “Build a Better World” six week program that begins on Wednesday, June 7 at 1 p.m.

“Before the War” is a new novel by Fay Weldon. It’s a cold November morning in England in 1922 when Vivian Ripple, the only daughter to the founder of Ripple & Company, the nation’s top publisher, takes the train to London with the express purpose of changing her life forever. Sherwyn Sexton, aspiring novelist and editor at Ripple & Company is shocked when his boss’s daughter strides in to his office and asks for his hand in marriage but Vivian’s promise to house him in comfort while he writes is too good to refuse. What neither of them knows is that she is pregnant by another man and will die in childbirth in a few months.

Other new fiction books are “Grace and the Preacher” by Kim Vogel Sawyer, “If I am Found” by Terri Blackstock, “Mississippi Blood” by Greg Iles, “Winter Tide” by Ruthanna Emrys, “Defy the Stars” by Claudia Gray, “Vicious Circle” by C. J. Box, “The Women in the Castle” by Jessica Shattuck, “Million Dollar Cowboy” by Lori Wilde and “American War” by Omar El Akkad. A new title in the young adult section is “Dream On,” the second book in the Silver Trilogy by Kerstin Gier.

“Indoor Gardening: a Beginner’s Guide to Creating Your Own Wonderful Indoor Vegetable Garden” by Faye Froome is among new non-fiction titles as well as “The Empath’s Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People” by Judith Orloff, M.D. and “Beginning Beekeeping: Everything You Need to Make Your Hive Thrive” by Tanya Phillips.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior books, “Don’t Feed the Geckos!” by Karen English, “Gabriela” by Teresa E. Harris and “A Boy Called Bat” by Elana Arnold. A few of the newer easy titles include “Pig & Goose and the First Day of Spring” by Rebecca Bond, “How to Babysit a Grandma” by Jean Reagan and “PJ Masks Save the Library!” by Daphne Pendergrass.

“Let’s Play Ball!” is the theme for Storyhour on May 30, 2017. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
