Gene Perrys Buy Tibbits Oil Co. Effective July 1

With the purchase by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Perry of the Tibbits Oil Company, effective July 1, from A.C. (Slim) Tibbits, one of Lusk's longest business tenures comes to a close. 

Name of the business will be changed to the Perry Oil Company, and Mr. Perry will operated the service station of South Main Street as well as the bulk service. Employees, Gary McFarlane and Stanley Johnson, will continue to work for the new owners.

The Perry family has been there since 1949 during which time he served on the Lusk police force and as chief, and more recently as salesman for Lusk Motors.

Mr. Tibbits first came to Lusk from Colorado in 1928 to work for the Ford Motor Co. and in 1930 began operation of a garage of his own. In fact, Mr. Tibbits says, "I have been taking care of cars for such people as Johnny Siemsen ever since I came here." 

His first garage located in the Petz building in front of the old laundry building which was recently demolished, burned down that same year and  he established another. Then in 1936 he established a filling station where the DeCastro Court now stands and operated it for 17 years. It was in 1955 that he established the new Phillips 66 station on South Main.

Mrs. Perry is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tibbits.
