NIOBRARA COUNTY
PRAIRIE VIEW CEMETERY

Note: Additional information not on gravestones is from mortician's records and private interview. Compiled by Sharon Lass Field, July, 1970

N.E. 1/4 Sec. 34, T. 32N, R 67 W

Location: South and East of Lost Springs, Wyo. This cemetery is well fenced, and for the most part, well marked. There are few old graves; and the cemetery is still in use. There is a very good plot laid out, and the copies are kept by the Baar family who live just north of the cemetery. The use of the cemetery has been by local families, mostly ranchers and farmers in the area.

50 Years Ago
August 19, 1926
Harold, 13-year old son of Jacob Ketcher, living three miles north of Shawnee, met a violent end Tuesday evening when he was dragged to death by a horse. How the accident occurred is not known.

Also included in documents is a legal document signed on September 17, 1938, by John B. Barnes Jr., authorizing William W. Dieleman and Judson P. Watson to "provide, hold, own, maintain and keep in repair a place or places of burial for the dead and to borrow money, execute notes, deed, contracts and mortgages pursuant to the maintenance of such cemetery or cemeteries;"...

There is also a Key to Plot list and a map of plot locations and grave diagram. Both of these documents contain a legal description of the cemetery location.

Articles of Incorporation of the
Prairie View Cemetery Association
of Keeline, Wyoming

Article 1.
We, the undersigned, all who may hereafter acquire membership in this association, do by these presents, associate ourselves together under and by virtue of Section Number 4212 of the compiled Statutes of 1910 of the State of Wyoming.

Article 2.
The name of this Association shall be the Prairie View Cemetery Ass'n of Keeline, Wyoming, with principle office at Keeline, Wyoming.

Article 3.
This Association is organized for the purpose of providing, maintaining and administering a suitable burying place for the dead.

Article 4.
This Association shall have power to borrow money or contract other obligations, necessary and required to the management of its affairs; provided however the maximum amount of such obligations shall at no time exceed the sum of five Hundred Dollars.

Aricle 5.
Any obligation incurred by this Association shall first be approved by its Board of Directors, duly recorded in the records of the Ass'n and executed by the President and Secretary of the Association; and all conveyances of real-estate shall likewise be executed by said President and Secretary.

Article 6.
Any person, who is a resident of the community, may, upon the payment of the sum of Five Dollars, become a member of this Association or any person who owns one or more Graves or Lots in the Cemetery, operated by this Association shall be considered a member of the Association and each member shall be entitled to an equal voice in the election of the Officers of the Ass'n.

Article 7.
This Association shall commence business on the first day of may A.D. 1919, and continue thereafter for a term of fifty years, with right and renewal, unless sooner dissolved by the vote of a majority of its members.

Article 8.
The affairs of this Association shall be managed by a board of five directors, who shall have full authority to adopt the By-Laws of Ass'n and who shall have the full management of the Association. The directors for the first year shall be Jacomb Amend, L.C. Burkholder, Lucy Shepard, F. E. Gibbons, W. W. Dielman.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, the parties have this day set their hands this day of A.D. 1919.
