This January a winter series featuring the power of the horse through books, film and programs will begin at the library.

The first book in the series will be Half-Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. This true-life novel traces the life of Wall's grandmother, Lily Casey Smith. The discussion will be held Wednesday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. Wayne Deahl, EWC professor will return to facilitate this book.

The second book in this three book series will be The Girl and Five Brave Horses by Sonora Carver. Carver was one of the first female horse divers and lost her sight while diving in 1931. This book will be discussed on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. and Wayne Deahl will also lead this discussion.

Carla Stroh will lead the discussion of the book Secretariat by William Nack. In 1973 Secretariat won the Triple Crown and still holds the record for the fastest times in both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. Stroh, a local horse enthusiast will offer personal insight about racing horses, raising horses as well as her work with equine art. This discussion and program will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. There are a limited number of books so participants are encouraged to register soon.

These programs are supported in part by a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts and locally from a grant with the NCSD Recreation District.
