Walter William Fanter

Walter William Fanter was born in Havana, Ill. Dec. 14, 1897 to William Frederick and Lena Nutzman Fanter. He was baptized in the German Lutheran Church.

At an early age he moved with his family to Smithfield, Nebr. Walter was engaged in farming with his father and brothers for quite a number of years.

In early adulthood he married Beulah Wilsey, and to this union two children were born, Herbert and Alberta. Walter later moved to Lexington, Nebr. where he met and married Cassie Oleta Robinson Olsen on April 22, 1935. To this union two children were born, Orvilla Darlene and William Ray.

Walter lived at Lexington from 1935 until 1958 when his wife died. During this time he was engaged in various occupations, farm labor, Neff Lumber Company, Dawson County Ditch Company, Platte Valley Hay Mill and Paulson Construction Company. In 1958 he moved to the Cozad, Nebr. area where he made his home with his daughter Darlene.

In 1965 he moved to North Platte, Nebr. with his daughter and son and their families. In 1971 he moved to Mitchell, Nebr. with his daughter and resided there until 1976 when he moved to Torrington where he lived until 1979 when he moved to the Lusk and Douglas area.

He made his home at the Niobrara Nursing Home from 1980 until the time of his death March 4, 1984.

He is survived by one daughter, Orvilla Gulley of Lusk; one son, William Ray of North Platte, Nebr.; one step daughter, Patricia Ann Dishman of Laramie; two brothers, Herman H. Fanter of Kelso, Wash. and Edward E. Fanter Ceres, Calif.; 31 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Molly Huggett; two brothers, George G. and Harry H. Fanter; one son, Herbert W. and one daughter, Alberta; his wife, Cassie and one grandson, Greg Dishman.

Services in Lusk were at Peet Mortuary with Rev. Clayton Crosby officiating Thursday, March 8, 1984. Music was provided by Brad Zimmerman and Tom Collins who offered, Beyond the Sunset, Old Rugged Cross, Detroit City and One Day at a Time.

Honorary Pallbearers were I. N. Gulley, Neff Glover, Robert Greene Sr., Robert Greene Jr., Frank Woyak, Sr., and Charles Canfield.

Services were in Lexington, Nebr. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Friday, March 9, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery following.

Memorials have been established to the EMT Ambulance Fund or the Niobrara County Nursing Home.

Local arrangements were by Peet Mortuary of Lusk.
