He was a man of many passions, many of which he enjoyed with his family and friends. He was an accomplished private pilot. A highly successful trap shooter, he was inducted into the Wyoming Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a passionate outdoorsman and successful elk, deer and antelope hunter. He also enjoyed reading, planting and tending the trees on his ranch, western movies and dancing.

Fred was a founding member and past president of the Niobrara Sportsman's Club, and was instrumental in the formation of the Torrington Trap Shooting Club. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Trapshooters Association, and served his community as a 4-H Club leader and a member of the School Board.

Born in Lusk, Fred was a graduate of Lusk High School and briefly attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, and his sons and their wives; Shannon and Terri, Shawn and Kim, Tom and Traci, and Travis and Lisa. His surviving siblings include sisters Madeline Grote of Harrison, Neb.; Anna May Coots of Little Rock, Wash.; Mary Rose Freeman of Hat Creek; Winnie Schippporeit of Canby, Ore., and brother Ed Bruegger of Lost Springs.
