James Alfred Fraser

Funeral services for James A. Fraser, 70, formerly of Lusk, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the United Methodist Church in Sundance. He will be buried with full military honors at the Lusk Cemetery at 2 p.m.

His wife, Virginia, and family have requested memorials be sent to the Sundance Country Club.

Services for James Alfred Fraser, 70, Sundance, Wyo., were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday Feb. 23, 1990, at the Methodist Church, Sundance, with Rev. Paul Redfield officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, were at 2 p.m. in the Lusk Cemetery, Lusk, Wyo., under the direction of the Filder-Roberts Northwestern Wyoming Funeral Chapel, Sundance, Wyo. Fraser died Monday night at the Crook County Memorial Hospital, Sundance, after a lengthy illness. A memorial has been established for the Sundance Country Club.

James A. Fraser was born Sept. 10, 1919, at Downing, Wyo., the son of David Cyrus and Elsie Agnes (Newman) Fraser. He grew up in the Sundance area and graduated from Sundance High School, 1937. He worked for sawmills in Crook County, including the Homestake Sawmill at Moskee, Wyo. He enlisted in the US Navy, at San Diego, Calif., on Dec. 19, 1941 and served in the north Atlantic and south Pacific theaters, serving on aircraft carriers USS Core and USS Battan. He was honorably discharged in November 1947, and returned to the Sundance area, again working for the Homestake Sawmill at Moskee. He became an electrical and power pole climber, working for electrical contractors in North Dakota and Minnesota.

He was married to Virginia J. Owens on Aug. 30, 1953, at Lusk, Wyo., and they lived in Lusk. He worked for eight years at the Niobrara Electric Association, Harrison, Neb. In 1962, they returned to Sundance, where Fraser worked as an electrician for Tri-County Electric Association until his retirement in February 1982.

He was a past commander of the VFW Post, Harrison, and former member of the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department, and the American Legion Post, at Lusk. He was a member of the VFW Post, Sundance, and the Sundance Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Sundance; a son James Andrew and his wife Peggy; two grandchildren: Nolan Kenneth and Devin James Fraser, all of Moorcroft, Wyo.; a brother, Robert Fraser of Leonard, Texas; and sister, Alice Ann Donnelly of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters (Leah-1954 and Julie-1970); a sister, Nancy, and three brothers: David C. Jr., Carl and Thomas.
