Nicholas Carl Goedert

A family memorial service for Nicholas "Nick" Carl Goedert will be held at a future date. At his request, cremation has taken place and internment will be in the Lusk cemetery.

He died Jan. 13, 2000, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper.

He was born Oct. 18, 1909, in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of Theodore and Margaret (Gondringer) Goedert. At the age of four his mother died and he and his father moved north of Poplar, Mont., where his father homesteaded. He was raised and educated in the Poplar area. He farmed with his father until his late 20s, when he acquired land of his own. In 1937-38, Nick worked on the construction of the Fort Peck Dam in Montana.

He married Bertha Neumann in 1938, and they continued in the farming business until his retirement in 1975. During that time he served many years on the board of directors for the Farmer's Union in Poplar. After retirement, Nick and Bertha enjoyed travel, visiting Russia, South America, New Zealand, Australia, Germany and Hawaii. In 1983 they moved to Kalispell, Mont., and in 1993 they moved to Lusk.

Nick was a hardworking man, taking a great deal of pride in his work and all of his family. He never knew a stranger and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Bertha of Lusk; two daughters, Margaret Monson of Havre, Mont., and Marilyn Solberg of Lusk; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Thacker of Saugus, Calif., Kathryn Yasenowsky and Dorothy Goedert, both of Poplar, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, one sister, two brothers, and a son-in-law Martin Monson.
