Dale W. Harris

Funeral Mass for Dale W. Harris, 66, will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Torrington, with Reverend Carl Beavers officiating. The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 at St. Rose Catholic Church. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery with military rites by Travis Snow Post #5 of the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard.

Memorial gifts to either St. Joseph's Children's Home or Forest Mound Chapel at Jay Em would be equally appreciated.

Mr. Harris died of an accidental gunshot wound at his ranch west of Jay Em on Feb. 1, 1993.

He was born March 9, 1926 in Torrington, the son of Frank and Florence (Blair) Harris. He grew up and received his early school at Jay Em and then graduated from Torrington High School.

He served in the U. S. Army and after his discharge he attended the University of Wyoming where he competed on the Rodeo Team. He married Virginia "Ginger" Merritt in Cheyenne on Sept. 9, 1948, and they lived on the family ranch at Jay Em. They moved to Lusk, where he was an auctioneer at the sale barn.

In 1958 they moved to Torrington where he began his 30 year career in real estate. He later owned and operated the Dale Harris Realty until his retirement. He was currently ranching at Jay Em. He enjoyed working in the livestock business and had a reputation as a fine stockman.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Travis Snow Post #5 of the American Legion, the Goshen County Stock Growers Association, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Association of Realtors.

He is survived by his wife Ginger of Torrington; three sons, Mark of Plains, Kan., Merritt and his wife Kathy of Cheyenne; and Bryan of Torrington; four daughters and their husbands, Daletta and Tom McGrain, Martha and John Phillips, Andrea and Dick Phillips, and Shanna and Rick Laible, all of Casper; a brother, Mark Harris of Jay Em and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The casket will be closed. The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of arrangements.
