Eleanor C. Heffron

Services for Eleanor C. Heffron, age 100, were held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Rose's Catholic Church in Torrington by Rev. Patrick Shea of Lusk. Burial followed in Valley View Cemetery.

The centenarian, who was born prior to Wyoming's statehood, taught in Guernsey and Torrington schools beginning in 1915, and later became Goshen County Superintendent of schools, died Dec. 2, 1990, at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk.

She was born April 26, 1890, to Thomas and Anna (Langdon) Heffron in Albion, Neb., where she was reared and educated. She attended Wayne Normal School at Wayne, Neb., and the University of Wyoming where she graduated in 1932.

She taught school at Wayne and Crawford, Neb., before moving to Torrington in 1915, where she resumed teaching.

Heffron raised her niece, Dolly and nephew, William Patrick Heffron, after their father died. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliaries.

She is survived by four nieces; Mrs. Dolly Albert of Sun City, Ariz.; Mrs. Veronica King Hennessy and Mrs. Margaret King Dalton, both of Rochester, N.Y., and Anne King Conner of Omaha, Neb.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, four brothers and one nephew.

Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
