Velma Irene Jackson

Velma Irene Jackson, who resided in Evansville, died Dec. 25, 2004 in her home at the age of 82. A service was held Jan. 3, 2005 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Casper at 10 a.m. Officiating the service will be Father Bob Spencer from St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Inurnment of cremains will take place in Lusk Cemetery.

Velma was born at her grandparents' home north of Lusk on July 22, 1922. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1940. In 1942 she married Harve H. Ledford at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk. Aside from four years, they resided and raised their children in Lusk. They had five children together. She spent many years raising her family and helping her husband at Foster Lumber Company until his health forced him to retire. In 1967, after the death of her husband, she moved to Casper to take a job with the US Soil Conservation Office in accounting, and was later employed with Benham's Supper Club as a bookkeeper. In 1975 she married James Fore of Casper. They shared 13 years together. In 1989 she married Rex R. Jackson of Evansville. They shared seven years together. Velma was a Life member of DAV Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary in Lusk, WY. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women of Casper. She was a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church and the Evansville Christian Church for many years. She had many hobbies and interests including reading, doing puzzles of all kinds, knitting hats for chemo patients and the homeless; and also baby blankets for St. Stephen's program for homeless babies across the country. She loved doing Sunday bulletins and programs for her church and was always striving to learn new things with her computer. Her proudest achievement was working for the Town of Evansville as a Council Person for eight plus years. She was so pleased that she could serve the community in those eight years and only missed four council meetings.

Velma is survived by her children; Marcia Ledford Stroh and husband Larry of Casper; David Ledford and wife Cindy of Rapid City, SD; Richard Ledford and wife Pam of Laramie; Glenna Nash and husband Mike of Casper; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her sisters, Hazel Nelson of Glenrock and Marjorie Lee of Billings, MT. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husbands, and her son Graydon, who died at birth.

Memorials can be sent to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4700 South Poplar, Casper, WY 82601. Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
