Ruth Lenore Johnson

Funeral services for Ruth Lenore Johnson, 88, of Lusk, were held Jan. 10, 2000, at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Father Clifford Moore from the All Saints Episcopal Church in Wheatland officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Ruth Johnson died Jan. 8, 2000 at the Niobrara County Hospital.

She was born on July 24, 1911 to Alfred and Olive Johnson in Douglas, Wyo.

Her early life was spent living in town and going to school in Niobrara County. Following high school, she attended the University of Wyoming and the Colorado Women's School. After her college years she returned to Niobrara County and taught six years in rural schools.

Miss Johnson moved to Washington D.C., where she was employed with Senator Frank Barrett. She returned to Cheyenne where she worked for several government offices and eventually worked at Warren Air Force Base. She became even more independent and opened a cake and candy shop out of her home.

Ruth returned to Lusk in the mid-1970's and lived in the family home until she became a resident of the nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Roy A. Johnson, and a sister Grace O. Johnson.

Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Eleanor of Lusk, one nephew Robert A. Johnson and his wife Polly, a great niece Deeanne Johnson and a great nephew Keven Johnson.

A memorial has been established to St. George Episcopal Church in Lusk or the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
