Ward Taylor Kindred

Ward Taylor Kindred, 87, of Chickasha, Okla., died Nov. 12, 1996, at his home in Chickasha. Graveside services were Nov. 16 in St. George Cemetery in St. George, Utah.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1909, to Archie M. Kindred and Ruth Bennett Kindred in Greeley, Colo. He grew up in Greeley, Colo. He attended Colorado A & M College (now Colorado State University) at Fort Collins, Colo., and graduated in 1932 with a bachelor of science degree in forestry. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. It was there that he met and later married Louise Langford on Jan. 14, 1934. He worked as a government surveyor working out of Greeley, and then later Durango, Colo.; Savannah, Mo.; Gallup and Farmington, N.M.; Shiprock, Yuba City, White River, McNary, Ariz.; and Dulce, N.M. In approximately 1949, he went back to school at CSCE (now Northern Colorado University) at Greeley and graduated with a master's degree in education in August of 1951. He then moved to Lusk, and was the high school science teacher. He taught general science, biology, chemistry and physics. He also started a photography course and was the first wrestling coach. He left there and moved to Temple City, Calif., and taught at the Baldwin Park High School until he retired in 1975. After retiring he moved to San Juan Capistrano, Calif., until 1980. He then moved to St. George and then came to live in Chickasha with his daughter and husband. During his life, his hobbies were doing his own photography work, genealogy and gardening. He was a member of the Latter Day Saints 16th Ward in St. George. While living in Chickasha he attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star Lodge, holding many offices including Worthy Patron. While he was in Utah, he was active in a Family Home Living Group and the Institute of Continual Learning.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his wife, on Jan. 23, 1987.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Myra and Kenneth Campbell of Chickasha; daughter Ruth Jahner of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; son Matthew Kindred of St. George; granddaughters Cynthia Turner, Katharine Campbell and Kimberly Zener; grandsons Eric and Lance Janna; two great-grandchildren, and several nephew and great nephews and nieces.
