George Richard Atchison

George Richard Atchison was born on December 24, 1910 in Woonsocket, South Dakota to George and Mary (Noltensmeier) Atchison. He died on Wednesday, February, 17 1999 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 24 days.

After George was born his family moved several times, George completed his tenth grade education at Atkinson High School in Atkinson Nebraska in 1927, the family moved to Chadron, Nebraska, where they farmed on the tableland south of Chadron.

On January 21, 1936, George was united in marriage to Leone Burk. This union was blessed with one daughter Loretta, and two sons Paul and Darrel.

The family lived and farmed on the table land south of Chadron, with George working many jobs to make ends meet. In 1947 they purchased a ranch northwest of Harrison, Nebraska. George was a man of the earth. He enjoyed working on the ranch , working on windmills , raising cattle and sheep as well as farming.

In 1986 George and Leone moved into Harrison , Nebraska Where they lived together until George's heath caused him to move to Ponderosa Villa in May 1990, were he resided until the time of his death.

George was a devoted family man, always sharing of himself with his wife and family, and was always willing to help others.

George was a member of the united memorial Methodist church in Harrison, Nebraska. He also participated in a square dance club, a card club and an extension club.

George is survived by his wife, Leone; one daughter, Loretta and husband Lenard (Bud) Wilkison of Lusk, Wyoming; Two sons Paul and wife Pat Suffolk, Virgina, and Darrel and wife Marilynn of Lander Wyoming; To sisters Vivan Hageman of Crawford, Nebraska and Elma Anderson of Lake Isabella, California; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends, George will be missed greatly by one and all.

George was preceded in death by his parents Mary Atchison and one brother, James.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Februay 20, 1999 from the Memorial United Methodist church in Harrison, Nebraska, with Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating, with burial at Harrison Cemetery in Harrison, Nebraska.

Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Volunteer Fire Department or the Volunteer Rescue Unit in Harrison Nebraska.
