Last Rites Held For Oliver Hitshew

The last rite for Oliver Hitshew were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Saturday afternoon, September 22, at two o'clock.

Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, Pastor of the Congregational Church of Lusk, officiated at the services. The songs "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden" were sung by a mixed quartet composed of Rev. Le La Cheur, George Gibson, Mrs. Le La Cheur, and Mrs. Wm. G. Watt, with Mrs. J.P. Watson, organist.

The Masonic burial rite were conducted by members of Harmony Lodge No. 24, A.F.& A.M. at the chapel and the commitment services at the Manville cemetery where internment was made. C.E. Marvin officiated at the Masonic services.

The casket bearers were D.A. Shoopman, Ira Wilson, Henry Amend, Wm. G. Watt, Ralph I. Olinger and Capt. Jack Criss.

Oliver Hitshew was born at Manville, January 18, 1891, the son of George and Mattie Hitshew. He died at Lusk, September 18, at the age of 54. September 12, 1912 he married Mary Minerva Hatten of Merriman, Neb. To them were born two sons and two daughters. Surviving in his immediate family are his wife, Mary; two sons, Harold of Lost Springs and Pvt. Wm. O. Hitshew, now stationed at Sheppard Field, Texas, and one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Wright of Lost Springs. Also surviving are a brother, Charles Hitshew of Denver, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Dern of Lusk and Mrs. Hazel Patterson of Houghton, Texas. Preceding him in death are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth McGuire; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Joss and Mrs.Reta Woody, and his father and mother.

Mr. Hitshew resided in the Keeline community, where he engaged extensively in the livestock business for many years. In September, 1943, he moved to Vallejo, California, where he was employed in defense work until June 1945, when he returned to Wyoming and made his home at Lost Springs until his recent illness.

Mr. Hitshew attended the public schools of Manville and later took a course in a business college in Grand Island, Neb. He was elected to the office of County commissioners for the term of 1933 and 1934. He was a pastmaster of the Masonic Lodge of Manville.

Among the out-of-town relatives here to attend the services were Pvt. Wm. O. Hitshew of Shepard Field, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Hatton and family of Idaho, Mr. Hatton being a brother of Mrs.Hitshew; Charles Hitshew of Denver, Mrs.Lillian Hitshew of Douglas, Wyo., and Mr.and Mrs. Harold Bacheller of Casper.
