Carl Peterson

Carl Peterson, age 82, of Lusk passed away on Monday, July 31 at the Michael Manor in Douglas. A memorial service was held Friday afternoon, August 4, at 2 p.m. at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Cremation has taken place. Pastor Mark Lohr of the Church of Christ in Lusk officiated.

Mr. Peterson was born on March 20, 1918, in Reliance, Wyoming, to Bert and Senia Huntuhs Peterson. Carl was reared in Tono and Centralia, Washington, where his father was Superintendent of the Tono Coal Mine.

The family moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1934. Carl graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1936. On July 14, 1940, he married Fern Culver in Rock Springs, Wyoming. They were married 60 years.

Carl worked as a carpenter for 12 years at the Superior Lumber Company. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1952 the family moved to Lusk, Wyoming where he went into business with his father-in-law Lafe Culver as a parts man and a mechanic. He later became owner of Culver and Son Auto Parts.

In 1971 the family purchased the Flying Finn Ranch five miles north of Lusk. Later, due to Carl's health, they purchased the home of Denis and Val Peterson in Lusk on July 1, 1997.

Carl's hobbies were gunsmithing, golf, hunting, and sports. He had the privilege of hitting the first Hole In One at the present golf course in Lusk. He never missed a basketball, football, or baseball game with his boys. He organized the Legion Baseball program in Lusk and served as a Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball Coach. He helped in the field preparation for the local diamond. Carl served on the Niobrara County School Board.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen, in infancy.

He is survived by his wife Fern, of Lusk, and his four children, Karla F. Smith and her husband Randy of Meeteetse, Wyoming; Judy K. Fogle and her husband Denis of Torrington, Wyo.; James B. Peterson and his wife Becky and Denis Peterson and his wife Valerie, both of Lusk. Nine grandchildren; Deana L. Gutherie, Veronica Donald, Tessa Brown, Thor Smith, Rox Anne Juracek, Eric Fogle, Carter Sekerak, Kristi Zukowski, and Allisa Peterson. Two step grandchildren; Andrea and Adam Honomichl. Two aunts; Elizabeth Anderson and Kate Peterson of Centralia, Washington. Carl is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and several cousins.

A memorial has been established to the Niobrara Senior Center in Lusk.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of the arrangements.
