Vernon Henry "Pete" Petersen

Vernon Henry "Pete" Petersen, 80 years of age died at Wyoming Medical Center September 22, 2000. Graveside services will be held at Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery with Reverend Bryant Badger of First Christian Church officiating Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be accorded by Natrona County Veteran's Council. Visitation will be held 8-8 Monday at Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory. The family asks that those wishing to may make memorial contributions out to Casper Mountains Stewardship, P.O. Box 2811, Casper, Wy. 82602 or left at Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory, who are in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Petersen was born February 21, 1920 in Harrison, Nebraska, the son of Henry H. and Arnietta Augusta (Heller) Petersen, He graduated in 1937 from Sioux County High School in Harrison

Pete enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 in Lusk, Wyoming. He served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Pete owned and operated a ranch in Van Tassell, Wy. for several years. He moved to Casper in 1957 where he worked at the check station for the Department of Revenue. He then worked for the U S Postal Service and retired after 20 years in 1983

Mr. Petersen married Rita Chapman Morrison June 3, 1969 in Casper.

His family says that Pete loved the mountains where he and his family built a cabin on Casper Mountain. He also won a stewardship award from the forest service for planting trees. In his earlier years, Pete enjoyed snowmobiling and playing cards every night with Rita.

He is a member of the First Christian Church, and the American Legion, Van Tassell #1.

Pete is survived by his wife, Rita Petersen of Casper; son Dean V. Petersen of Casper, daughter-in-law Becky Petersen Skelton of Casper; step children, Rod Morrison of Bar Nunn; Debra Mapp of Casper, Mel and Judy Morrison of Casper; Frankie and Joe Cardinal of Casper; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two sisters and his parents.
