Elizabeth (Betty) Reed

Memorial services for Elizabeth Delia Reed, 89, were held on Monday, April 29, 1995(1996), at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Lusk with Rev. Don Laue officiating. Burial followed at the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed died April 25, 1996 at the Niobrara Nursing Home.

She was born April 7, 1907, in Decatur, Neb. the daughter of Jim and Delia Akins.

She spent her childhood on a farm near Decatur, Neb. and attended school there. She attended college at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. She came to Wyoming in 1929 to teach school. She met E. C. (Jim) Reed at a local country dance and they were married in Lusk, Jan.17, 1931. They made their home on the 7L Ranch in northern Niobrara County until they moved to Lusk in 1959.

Mrs. Reed taught country school at Morrisey, 7 Mile and Cow Creek schools. She also worked in the high school cafeteria, the library and the Quality Shop, all in Lusk. She was a charter member of the Lusk B.P.O. Does, a Niobrara County Cowbelle and was active in the Congregational Church Circle. Following the death of her husband in 1963 she traveled many places. She lived in her home in Lusk until 1993 when she moved to the Niobrara Nursing Home.

Survivors include two sons, James C. Reed of Northern Niobrara County and Thomas S. Reed of Lander, Wyo., one sister, Loretta Sears of Decatur, Neb. and one brother Jack Akins of Pleasant Valley, Calif., several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and one granddaughter.

Friends may donate in her memory to the Niobrara Nursing Home.

Bader Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
