Funeral Services For Raleigh Reed Are Held Sunday

Funeral services for Raleigh W. Reed, 75, were held Sunday, March 17, from the Peet Chapel in Lusk. Donald Brown of the Church of Christ, officiated at the services. Mrs. J. P. Watson served as organist, and a quartet composed of Mrs. Hobart Cockerham, Mrs. Ramie Fosher, Al Davenport and Mark Lohr sang "Until Then" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Ted Lohr, Hobart Cockerham, Bill Rush, Bing Baar, Dean Fosher and Ramie Fosher. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Reed, retired Niobrara rancher, died suddenly while fishing at Glendo Reservoir March 13. He and Mrs. Reed had returned to Lusk the previous Saturday following a month's visit with their son, Richard Reed, Mrs. Reed and sons in Richland, Wash.

Raleigh Washington Reed was born in Carney, Okla. Jan. 28, 1893. While a small child, he moved with his parents to Cullison, Kans., where he resided until his enlistment in the Navy in World War I.

He came to Lusk at the close of the war, and on June 12, 1923 was married to Verna Mae Dean of Node, Wyo. The couple had one child, a son, Richard.

In 1940 the Reed family moved to a ranch southwest of Lusk where Mr. Reed was engaged in ranching until his retirement in 1961, at which time he and Mrs. Reed moved into Lusk.

He was a charter member of the Church of Christ, and served as an elder for many years.

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Verna, at the family home in Lusk; his son Richard and two grandsons, Russell and Randy, all of Richland, Wash.; one sister Gertrude Calhoun of Casper, and a brother, Walter, of Pratt, Kans.
