Graveside Services and Interment Held Here for the Late Mrs. Janie Scott; Passes Away in Cody, July 25

Graveside services were held here at ten o'clock Tuesday morning, for the late Mrs. Janie A. Scott, who had passed away Wednesday, July 25th, on her 83rd birthday anniversary, at the Memorial Rest Home in Powell, Wyo. The Peet Mortuary was in charge of the service held here, with Rev. Frank Bozart officiating.

Before bringing the remains to Lusk, funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 30th, in the Episcopal Church in Cody, with Rev. C. Arch Hopper officiating.

Interment was made in the family plot in the Lusk cemetery. Casket bearers were C. Art Whelan, Ralph I. Olinger, John Lorenzen, Dudley Fields, Robert Taylor and Earl Criss.

Janie Armstrong Scott, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Scott, was born July 25th, 1872 at North Umberland, England, and departed this life on her 83rd birthday anniversary at Powell, Wyo. Note: The birth date used in this data base is the one from the gravestone.

When she was a very young lady, she came to the United States to visit her brother, Robert and family in New York state. Remaining in the State, she was married to Edwin D. Scott in 1893. To his union were born two children, Edwin D. and Elizabeth.

In 1915, she homesteaded in the Hat Creek community, and resided there until 1922 when she was the house mother of Hoyt Hall at the University of Wyoming. Later she was head matron at Ethitie for a year in 1927, at the Shoshone Indian Reservation. In 1928 she moved to Cody where she had since made her home with the exception of two years 1945 to 1947 when she made her home in Lusk and at Hat Creek.

She was married to Geo. Snider, who passed away October 29, 1928, and who was buried at Cody, the remains later being moved to the Lusk cemetery. Her first husband, Edwin Scott, passed away in New York in 1939.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, John, Robert and Andrew, and a daughter, Betty, the latter passing away in 1929.

Survivors include an only son, Edwin Scott of Portland, Ore., and one grandson, Robert Scott and family of Hat Creek.

Former Hat Creek Resident Dies in Cody; Burial Here

Mrs. Janie A. Scott, 83, of Cody, formerly of Hat Creek, died July 25 at Cody from complications of old age. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Lusk with Rev. Frank Bozart, pastor of the Open Bible Standard Church officiating.

Casket bearers were Art Whelan, Ralph Olinger, John Lorenzen, Dudley Fields, Robert Taylor and Earl Criss.

Janie A. Scott was born July 25, 1873 in Northumberland, England, coming to the United Sates when a young woman. She married Edwin D. Scott of New York. They were the parents of two children.

They homesteaded in the Hat Creek community in 1915, living there until 1922 when they moved to Laramie where she was house mother at Hoyt Hall for five years. They moved to Cody in 1928 where she has since resided.

Survivors include one son, Edwin of Portland, Ore., and a grandson, Robert of Hat Creek. Her parents, three brothers, husband and a daughter previously died.
