Death Claims Joseph C. Seifert After Long Years of Illness; Final Services Conducted Wednesday; Burial Here

Many years of suffering were ended for Joseph Clay Seifert, long-time and highly respected resident of this city, when he passed away quietly at 10:30 p.m., Sunday, January 24th, at Niobrara Memorial hospital. Mr. Seifert's last hospitalization, one of many in recent years, had been since January 12th. He had been a sufferer from a kidney and heart condition for the past 11 years, but in recent months had declined noticeably in condition.

Members of his family residing away from this city were called early last week, and all were home when Mr. Seifert passed away. He took a decided change for the worse last Friday morning, and failed continually from that time until his demise. He had reached the age of 71 years, one month and 29 days.

Surviving are his wife, Ona M., three daughters, Bernice M. Clark and Mrs. Martha A. Kelly, both of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Virginia F. Orians of Pendleton, Ore.; two sons, Joseph H., and Jamese E., both of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Thomas R. Seifert of Harrison, Nebr., and Samuel D. Seifert of Indianapolis, Ind., one sister, Mrs. Ida Grace Gay of Lawrenceville, Ill., nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Rosary services for Mr. Seifert were held at the Peet Funeral Home at 7:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, Father M.J. McBrien of St. Leo's Catholic church, officiating.

Concluding rites were conducted from St. Leo's church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 27th, with interment in the Lusk cemetery. Casketbearers were Lloyd Nolan, Otto H. Krekeler, Everett Parmely, Robert L. Massie, Ernest Jugler and "Chuck" Vaughan.

Joseph Clay Seifert was born November 26, 1882 at Elnora, Ind., a son of Jacob Henry and Jamina Mayfield Seifert. He spent his youthful days and grew to manhood in that locality.

On September 19, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Ona M. Hicks, the young couple remaining in Indiana until 1916 when they moved westward to Wyoming. They lived on a farm north and east of Lusk for several years and then moved to Lusk.

Here Mr. Seifert became employed with the Cordell Bros. meat market, and continued in that capacity for a number of years. Later he entered the trucking business and followed that until in 1943 when his health began to fail after his initial serious attack of kidney trouble.

For years he was unable to get around but slightly, but despite his condition he was cheerful and friendly with everyone he chanced to meet, declining to take his condition seriously and always having a ready smile for everyone, young and old alike.

Mr. Seifert had had a full life for the most part, and was looking forward with much anticipation to September 19th of this year, which would have marked the couple's golden wedding anniversary - an occasion so rarely enjoyed in this day and age.

Joseph Seifert Dies Here Sunday

Death claimed Joseph C. Seifert, 71, Sunday evening, Jan. 24, at 10:45 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital after he had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Seifert and their family have been residents of Lusk and vicinity for the past 38 years, where Mr. Seifert was engaged in ranching and later in the trucking business.

Joseph Clay Seifert, the son of Jacob and Jamina Seifert, was born at Elnora, Ind. Nov. 11, 1882.

Rosary services were held Tuesday evening at the Peet Chapel and funeral services were conducted from St. Leo's Catholic Church Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Father M. J. McBrien officiating at both services.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with Lloyd Nolan, Otto Krekeler, Everett Parmely, Robert Massie, Ernest Jugler and Charles Vaughan as casket bearers.

Survivors include the widow and children, Mrs. Berniece Clark, Mrs. Leo Kelley, Joseph C. Seifert, Jr., and Jim Seifert, all of Denver, and Mrs. Paul Orians of Pendleton, Ore. A number of grandchildren also survive. All of the children arrived the past week when it became known that their father was so ill. Here also were Mrs. Joseph and Jim Seifert, Mr. Kelley and Linda Orians.
