Fred and Mary St. John die in car crash Sunday

The funeral for Fred and Mary Ellen St. John who were killed in a head-on collision eight miles east of Sundance Sunday night, is today, Thursday, at the Peet Mortuary beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The state patrol said one of the drivers was trying to pass another and collided head-on with the third at the crest of a hill.

Fred Morgan St. John was born Feb. 19, 1924 at Newberry, Mich., the son of Benjamin and Rachael St. John.

Mary Ellen St. John was born Oct. 31, 1924 at West Branch, Mich., the daughter of William and Edna Marshall.

The two were married at Dalhart, Tex. Feb. 17, 1945 where they lived until Fred went overseas during World War II and Mary Ellen returned to West Branch. After his discharge they lived in West Branch and then moved to Newberry where he was employed at the State hospital. In 1956 they moved back to West Branch and in 1960 they moved to Casper.

They moved to Lusk following his retirement in 1971.

They are survived by two sons, Patrick of Casper, and William of Lusk; two daughters, Karen Weiss, Casper, and Wanda Martin, Odessa, Tex., and on grandson, Travis William St. John.

Fred St. John is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rachael St. John, Lusk and nine brothers and sisters; Waunita Ogger, Ben St. John, Thelma Menzies, Ted St. John, Pete St. John, Perry St. John, Pearl Hornbuckle, Doris Baughman and his twin Frank St. John.

Mary Ellen is survived by five brothers and sisters; Harriet Harshman, Idella Benjamin, William and Robert Marshall and Betty Jean Graham.

The Rev. Frank Bozart presided and Edna DeCastro was organist. Joe Ellen Robinson and Dick Hornbuckle sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers for Fred St. John were Bud Wilkerson, Rich Schnorenberg, Brent Hornbuckle, Art Renzelman, Keith Lemons, and Al Titchener. Pallbearers for Mary Ellen were Doug Williams, Rodger Bonsell, Bob Trout, Bob Sieting, Bill Dockery and Jerry Scott. Interment will be in the Lusk Cemetery.
