Ila L. Stutesman

Graveside services for Ila L. Stutesman, age 85, were held June 17, at the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Stutesman died Tuesday morning, June 14, 1994, at the Platte County Hospital in Wheatland. She was born December 8, 1908, near Turin, Iowa, in Monona County, the daughter of Charles E. and Ollie May Harris Hathaway.

At an early age she was enrolled in the Methodist Cradle Roll Department in Turin, Iowa. At the age of 4 years, she moved with her parents to a homestead on the Cheyenne River in northern Niobrara County. She attended a rural school for ten years and graduated from Newcastle High School in May of 1929. She attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education.

She was united in marriage to Charles J. Stutesman on April 4, 1955. She taught in the rural schools of Wyo. for 34 years and lived all of her life in Wyoming except for six years in Tucson, Ariz. She later retired to their home in Newcastle. Ila and her husband Charles moved to Torrington in August of 1975. Mr. Stutesman died in February of 1976.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Hathaway, and his wife Alta Mae of Glendo; their two daughters, Susan Shipper of Casper and Beth Cole of Douglas; a sister, Ellen Buhlke of Tucson, Ariz., and her four children; two stepsons, Jimmy Stutesman of Bancroft, Wisc. and Charles Lee Stutesman of Willcox, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

For those who wish, memorials to the Platte County Nursing Home and Hospital will be appreciated by the family.
