Hit-Run Vehicle Kills Former Resident in Wash.

A memorial service was held February 17 at the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle for Miss Edith A. Thompson who was killed in a hit-run accident February 13 in Seattle. Miss Thompson was buried in Jewell, Iowa.

Miss Thompson, 62, a teacher at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle had returned to her car to get a forgotten Bible before attending a Bible Study meeting at the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church when she was struck by the automobile. She was dragged for two blocks by the fleeing car. The driver of the auto, apprehended soon after the accident, has been charged with negligent homicide in the death.

Miss Thompson was born in Lusk November 2, 1910, to Thomas and Hannah Thompson. Her father was the first assessor of Niobrara County. She moved with her family to Jewell, Iowa, while still a child.

She studied at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis and received her degree in Religious Education from New York University. She also studied at Iowa State Teachers College, Colorado State College of Education, Seattle Pacific College and also attended and taught many religious education seminars.

She was a public school teacher and church school teacher and director before going to Seattle Lutheran Bible Institute in 1958. She lived with a sister, Avis, in Seattle. Other survivors are a sister, Mabel, Chicago, stepsister Mrs. Eleanor Ross, Sioux City, Iowa and brother Leonard Dawson of Minnesota.

Miss Thompson was a niece of Arthur Thompson and Mrs. Don Taylor of Lusk.
