Pat Vaughan Dies In Arizona Dec. 24

Pat Vaughan, colorful figure of Lance Creek and Lusk for many years died at Douglas, Arizona December 24th.

Word of his illness was received by his wife the latter part of the week and she and her son Jimmy left at once by car and arrived in Arizona a short time before his death.

The remains will be shipped back here for burial and services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, December 30th.

Mr. Vaughan followed the barber trade both in Lusk and Lance Creek, and was also a railroad man, which employment he was following at the time of his death.

Besides his wife he is survived by four sons - Joe of Casper, Chuck and Jimmy of Lusk, and Forrest, who recently moved to the West Coast; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Welch of Lance Creek.

Widely Known Lance Creek Man Dies

One of Lance Creek's most widely known citizens, Pat Vaughan, died in Arizona on December 24. The Vaughns made their home here for years and Mr. Vaughan operated the local barber shop. During the war he gave up barbering and resumed his old profession on the railroad. He received a severe injury about a year ago while he was employed by the railroad. His four sons, "Frosty," Chuck, Joe and Jimmy, and a daughter, Mrs. bob Welch, with their mother, survive. He was buried in Lusk Sunday. Pat was everybody's friend.

SERVICES FOR PAT VAUGHAN HELD HERE SUNDAY

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon for Pat Vaughan, whose death occurred on December 24, at Douglas, Arizona. The Peet Mortuary had charge of the service and the Rev. Ezra Duncan officiated.

When word of Mr. Vaughan's serious illness reached Lusk a few days before his death, his wife and son Jimmy traveled to Arizona, arriving shortly before he died. His body was shipped here for burial.

Mr. Judson P. Watson was the organist for the services. Mrs. Emerson Bonner, Miss Betty Jean Humphreys, Mrs. Ezra Duncan and Miss Justine Watson sang "Back of the Clouds" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Those who acted as pallbearers were Arch Liberty, Pat Skillings, Orville Hoyt, Marvin Howe, Owen Harness and Paul Miller.

All of the children of Mr. Vaughan were present except a daughter, Mrs. Wilson, of Alaska.

Joseph Percival Vaughan was born December 11, 1883, at Whatcheer, Iowa, the son of Charles R. and Sarah Frances Vaughan. He attended school and grew to young manhood in that vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Miss Adda Sterrett at Arion, Iowa, in June, 1903. After a few years spent in Iowa they moved to Chadron, Neb., where Mr. Vaughan continued his trade as a barber. In 1914 he took up railroading as a brakeman and conductor, which he followed as his principal occupation until 1926. In the meantime he established a ranch some 25 miles northwest of Lusk and later operated a barber shop in Lance Creek.

During the war emergency he again took up railroading in different Southwestern States and was so occupied at the time of his last illness and death, which occurred at Douglas, Arizona, on December 24, at the age of 62 years.

Mr. Vaughan is survived by his wife, Adda, of Lusk; four sons, Forrest of Centralia, Wash.; Joe of Casper, Charles and Jimmy of Lusk; two daughters, Mrs. Vilma Arlene Wilson of Wasilla, Alaska, and Mrs. Pracilla May Welsh of Lance Creek. One sister, Mrs. Latha Horton of Santa Monica, California, and by eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
