Mrs. Julia Roy Dies in Denver

Mrs. Julia Roy, resident of Niobrara County since 1905 and active community worker in Lusk for many years, died in St. Lukes Hospital in Denver Friday at the age of 87.

She had been taken to Denver three weeks prior to her death and had undergone surgery there earlier this fall, but until the past year had been quite active.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Raymond P. Hoffman, pastor of St. George's Episcopal Church, from the Peet Mortuary Tuesday alternoon with interment in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clair Rice, John Siemsen, Roy McLain, Henry Kaan, Ray DeGering and Hans Gautschi. Music was provided by a group from the Episcopal choir, including Mrs. Robert Bramlet, Miss Shirley Vollmer, Miss Naomi Taylor and Mrs. Lawrence Doman, with Mrs. Otto Koeberlin as organist.

Mrs. Roy was born on a farm in Fond du Lac County, Wisc. near Oakflield, the daughter of Martin and Lovica Hubbard and was named Julia Matilda. She attended rural schools and grew to womanhood there. In 1884 she married John H. Roy there.

MOVE TO WYOMING IN 1905
In 1892 the family moved to Neligh, Neb. to farm for two years and then moved back to Oakfield. In 1905 the Roys moved to Wyoming buying the Clifton ranch 20 miles north of Lusk. In 1908 the ranch was sold to Ed Barber and the family moved into Lusk where Mr. Roy took up building and contracting. The family home at 526 South Pine was constructed in 1913.

Mrs. Roy was active in numerous community activities. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and worked in the Guild of the church for many years, serving as its president for 12 years. She had a knack for raising money for the church. She was a charter member of Luke Vorhees Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and helped promote the moving of the present cabin from the Wilson Ranch to the City Park. She was a member and past president of the American War Mothers and assisted in the project of the memorial entrance to the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Roy died Dec. 13, 1934, and one son died as a baby. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Mrs. Olive Johnson of Lusk, Mrs. George Giinther of Casper, and Lloyd Henry Roy of Elk Grove, Calif. There are five grandchildren: Roy Johnson and Mrs. Jack Cashman of Lusk, Miss Ruth L. Johnson of Cheyenne. Miss Margaret Giinther and Mrs. Ray Blunk of Casper, and a great grandson, Robert Roy Johnson of Lusk. One brother, Joe Hubbard, lives at Fairbanks, Alaska.

Lloyd Roy, the Giinther family and the Blunk family were here for the services as well as Mr. and Mrs. Cy Blair, friends from Buffalo. and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schroeder, friends of Belle Fourche, and Mr. and Mrs. William Wickersham, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Seers, and Mrs. Agnes Andrews, friends of Harrison.
