Henry Deetjen Dies From Long Illness

Death came as a release from long years of suffering to Henry J. Deetjen on Saturday, January 8, at the Battle Mountain Sanitarium in Hot SprIngs, So. Dak.

The young man, who would have been 29 years old on the 28th of this month. has been an invalid for almost six years.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deetjen of Lusk and was born here on January 28, 1920. He attended the Lusk schools and was baptized in the Congregational Church.

For nearly two years he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. In the spring of 1942 he was married to Shirley Ayers and in September of the same year was inducted into the Army, but because of illness was discharged in December of 1942.

He was cared for by his wife until 1944, when he was taken to the sanitarium, where he has since been a patient.

The ambulance from the Peet Mortuary went to Hot Springs on Sunday and brought the remains to Lusk.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Peet Chapel this (Wednesday) afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

A quartet composed of Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, Mrs. C. E. Marvin, Mrs. William C. Watt and Mrs.Gerald Bardo will sing "In the Garden," "Asleep in Jesus" and "Rock of Ages." Mrs. J.P. Watson will be the accompanist.

The casket bearers will be Clifford Renz, Gene Lee, Clyde Blackmore, Bud Hoblit, Slim Tibbits and Donald Peet of Powell, Wyo.

The military service will be conducted at the grave and the deceased will be laid to rest in the Lusk Cemetery beside his wife, who passed away in July of 1948.

His father, Henry Deetjen, Sr., also preceded his son in death, having died suddenly in February of 1947, and a baby brother died many years ago.

Surviving him is his mother, Mrs. Emily Deetjen of Lusk: three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Holcomb of Salem, Oregon; Mrs. Leona Brown of San Ysidro, New Mexico, and Mrs. Dorothy Klieber of Lusk, and two brothers, Arthur Deetjen of Flora, Ill., and George Deetjen of Lusk.
