Ernestine Sabin, Early Resident, Dies in California

Mrs. Ernestine Espenett Sabin, mother of Herbert E. Sabin of Node, and widow of the late Samuel W. Sabin of Node, died in Oakland, Calif., on April 13, 1949.

Mrs. Sabin was a resident of Node for some 26 years, where ase took a very active interest In the enterprises of the community.

She was a charter member of the Node Homemakers Club, one of the first Extension clubs in this part of the State. A Sunday School was started in her home, which later led to the organization of the Congregational Church of Node. She later joined the Lusk Congregational Church and was a member at the time of her death.

Ernestine Espenett Sabin was born in Windsor, Wisconsin, on October 21, 1863. After receiving her education in the Wisconsin schools, she was a teacher until her marriage to Samuel W. Sabin on September 16, 1886.

In 1901 the family moved to South Dakota and came to Wyorning in 1910, establishing a home about a mile from Node.

After her husband's death in 1939, Mrs. Sabin spent some time with her youngest son, Donald, at Silver Springs, Maryland, and with her daughter, Ruth, in Maywood, Ill. The last years of her life were spent in Oakland, Calif., where her son, Alfred, and daughter, Ethel, live.

She suffered a series of strokes and has been an invalid for a number of years, much of the time bedfast.

One son, Ben, preceded his mother in death. The survivors include her two daughters. Ruth Johnson, Maywood, Ill., and Ethel Smith, Oakland, Calif., and three sons - Herbert of Lusk, Wyo., Alfred of Oakland, Calif., and Donald of Silver Springs, Maryland; also eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Oakland, on April 14, and the remains will be brought to Lusk where services will be held in the Peet Chapel on Saturday afternoon, April 23, with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating and interment will be made in the Node Cemetery beside her husband.

Note: Although this obituary indicates that burial was in the Node cemetery, the above gravestone is located in the Lusk Cemetery, and there is no listing for either Samuel or Ernestine Sabin in the Node cemetery records.
