John Royce Brown Dies On Tuesday

John Royce Brown, 31, died at the Spencer Hospital at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 1. The young man, a resident of Lance Creek, had been a sufferer from a chronic kidney ailment for several years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Brown and is survived by his wife.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Peet Chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating.

Last Rites Held For Royce Brown At Lusk Saturday

Final rites for John Royce Brown, 31, were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Saturday afternoon, February 5, at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

A quartet composed of Don Unruh, Rex Yocum, Mrs. Sam Thomas, Jr., and Mrs. H.J. Templeton sang "This World is Not My Home" and "We'll Never Say Good-Bye in Heaven." Mrs. H. J. Temmpleton sang as a solo "In the Garden." Mrs. J.P. Watson was the accompanist.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery, with the following friends conveying the remains to their last resting place: Frank Parks, Don Vickory, Frank DeCastro, Chad DeCastro, Harry Brown and Jimmy Dunphy.

Some three years ago the deceased was stricken with a serious kidney ailment and had submitted to surgery four times since then, but his health failed steadily and he passed away at the Spencer Hospital at 1:35 a.m. on February 1st.

John Royce Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Brown, was born at La Harpe, Ill., on September 20, 1917. At the age of 1 1/2 years he moved with his parents to Lance Creek, Wyo., where his father was engaged in field work for the Ohio Oil Company.

Outside of his junior year in high school, which was spent in Wheatland, Wyo., he has lived at Lance Creek. He graduated from the Lusk High School with the class of 1936. Following his graduation he worked in the Lance Creek oil field for the Manning Company and for five years was employed by the F.A. Gorman Trucking Company. At the time of his death he was employed as mechanic at the Continental Gas Plant.

Royce Brown was very versatile and proved proficient in any task. He was interested in airplanes and received his pilot's license in April of 1948 and just six months ago purchased a plane and made one or more mercy flights during the difficult days following the blizzard.

He was married at Harrison Neb., to Pauline Towson of Kearney, Neb., on July 30, 1940, and the couple moved at once to their home at Lance Creek, where they have since resided.

Surviving him is his widow, Pauline; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Brown; three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Sessions, Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Ethel Thayer, Cody, Wyo.; Mrs. Dorothy Herbison, Heppner, Ore., and one brother, Robert Dean, at home. Seven half sisters, Mrs. Gayle Brown, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Fannie Kuehn, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Lucille Aberle, Lance Creek, Wyo.; Mrs. Mildred Jeffres and Mrs. Ruth West, Bloomington, Ill.; Miss Euresa Hurley, San Francisco, Calif.; and Mrs. Leota Percival of Lusk, and a number of uncles and aunts, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Among the out-of-town relatives here for the services were Mrs. Bernice Sessions of Casper, Mrs. Ethel Thayer of Cody, Mrs. Ruth West of Bloomington, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sullwold, Kearney, Neb.

With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land.
