Alyce Grace Hoy Bonner

Funeral services for Alyce Grace Hoy Bonner, age 79, were Monday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with Reverend Don Mathis of LaGrange, Wyoming officiating. Burial followed in Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Bonner died early Friday morning, January 15 at the Niobrara County Nursing Home in Lusk. The fourth of eleven children born to Waldo Harley and Mable Grace Hoy, she was born October 10, 1919 on the homestead in northern Goshen County, just east of the Rawhide Buttes. She and her brothers and sisters attended grades one through ten at the Rawhide School and Alyce graduated from the Lusk High School in 1938.

As children of the pioneer homestead period, life was not easy and all were kept busy with chores. As a side line, all of the children were involved in 4-H club work starting with certified potatoes, food preparation, sewing, bum lambs, tractor maintenance and finishing with Registered Herefords in better days.

Alyce graduated from the Beauty School in Cheyenne and followed that career during the war years. It was in Cheyenne she met and married M/Sgt. J. B. Pete Norman. They had one son, John Ronald, who attended and graduated from the Lusk School System. She later married Cye Bonner in 1962.

Alyce and her husband Cye had a large lot in north Lusk with many shade trees. It was a welcome place for the many campers, trailers and tents that found their way there for the many family gatherings. There were horses for the children to ride and a lot of affection for all.

Alyce was a member of the Baptist Church and did much work with the youth. She worked many years at the Lusk Herald and later worked in the Assessor's Office. She was active in many organizations. She was a homemaker of many talents, a gracious hostess, a good cook and gardener. There was always a basket of handwork by the side of her chair whenever the opportunity came for a few minutes of relaxation.

Alyce cared for her husband Cye until it became necessary for them both to be cared for in the Niobrara County Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Grace Hoy, her husband Cye Bonner, four brothers, Maynard, Harold, Albert, a brother Lester who was killed in World War II; a sister Oneita Simonson and a stepson Lewis Ted Bonner.

Survivors include her son, John Ronald Norman, his wife, Cherie and two children Scott and Molly of Seattle; a step daughter Nondace Motsenbacker and her children Terrie, Rex Allen and Rhonda Kay and 5 step grandchildren of Arizona; three brothers, Richard of the home ranch, Robert Wayne of Parker, Colo., and Kenneth Dale of Scottsbluff, Nebr.; two sisters, Wyoma Hoy of Visalia, Calif., and Lola Darnell of Gillette and may nephews and nieces.

For those who wish, memorials to the Niobrara County Nursing Home will be appreciated by the family. Bader Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of the arrangements.
