Eileen Shields

Funeral services for Eileen Shields, 82, were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. She died on Nov. 1 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.

Eileen was born on August 15, 1919 in Albion,Neb., the daughter of Alfred and Lucille (Downing) Michael. At the age of 4 she moved with her family near Henry, Neb., where she grew up on a farm on the Goshen County, Wyoming side of Henry.

On Dec. 31, 1934, she married Arthur Shields in Bridgeport, Neb. The couple bought his grandmother's homestead south of Torrington. They then farmed until 1978 when they retired and moved in to Torrington. Mr. Shields died in 1993.

Mrs. Shields managed the Elks Club for many years. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and she especially enjoyed doing crafts and sewing. She was a member of the South Goshen Presbyterian Church and she was a past member of the Women of the Moose and Does.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Marvin Margheim of Hemet, Calif., a brother Earl Michael of Torrington; a sister Cordice Dinger Dickson of Arlington, Wash.; two grandsons David Margheim and his family of Mitchell, S. D.; and Chip Margheim and his family of Vermillion, S. D.; a granddaughter Candy Young and her family of Rawlins, and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and infant twin brothers.

The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of the arrangements.
