Carolyn Hammond

Carolyn Hammond, 70, of Lance Creek, Wyo. passed away on June 6, 2008 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium with Pastor Gary Walker of Lance Creek officiating. A coffee will follow.

Carolyn was born to B.T. and Edith Brown on Aug. 6, 1937, and was raised on the family farm in Fort Collins, Colo. She graduated from Timnath, Colo. High School, and then attended Colorado A&M for two years, where she met the love of her life, Jack W. Hammond. They were married on Sept. 28, 1958 in Fort Collins, Colo. They moved to Lance Creek in 1958. During their 50 years together they enjoyed doing almost everything together, from running their business, MACJAC Inc., successfully, to hunting and fishing and raising their family.

Carolyn had a love for everything in life, but church and family always came first. She always gave from the heart to anyone and everyone. She was involved in many different aspects of 4-H at the local and state level. She enjoyed all of the hard work and success involved with all the different projects. She touched many lives while sharing her love of agriculture with young people. She also served as an EMT for over 10 years in the Lance Creek community. She played piano and taught Sunday school at Lance Creek Church for many years. She loved attending Midwest and Tristate rural electric board meetings with Jack. Carolyn loved people, and had many friends all over the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, son Curt Hammond, and daughter Sherri Gilkerson.

She is survived by her husband Jack, oldest daughter Julie Hodge and husband Mike of Newcastle, Wyo., middle daughter Lisa Hampton and husband Van of Casper, Wyo., son-in-law Marc Gilkerson, and five grandchildren: Ashley, Kenneth and Zane Hodge, and Jack and Thomas Hampton.

Donations can be made to the Lance Creek Community Church, Lance Creek 4-H Club or the Sherri Gilkerson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
