The Lusk Herald, March 17, 1922
J.A. Rice died at 6:30 a.m., March 10, 1922, at his home in Lusk after two weeks of intense but patient suffering.
He was born at Forreston, Illinois on June 11, 1861. Was married at McCook, Nebr., April 19, 1887 to Miss Catherine Williams. To this union were born two children, Dalbert J. Rice, and Mrs. H.Z. Boyles, both being with him through much of his sickness and at time of death, and one sister of Spokane, Wash., who was unable to come.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge M.E. church. Rev. D.J. Clark delivered an able and commendable sermon, he being the pastor at Pleasant Ridge.
For a number of years, Mr. Rice was an employee of the B & M railroad company at McCook , Nebr., first as brakeman and then conductor. After several years on his farm in Wyoming, he again entered the C. & N. W. railroad at Lusk, being employed as warehouseman.
He was a kind and loving husband and father. All was done that loving hands could do. We can only bow in humble submission. It is natural for us to weep when a member of our household departs, but there is a rainbow in every tear because we know that we shall presently be with them, where pain and suffering are not known.
