John H. Gaythe, 79, Dies Here Mon.

John H. Gaythe, 79, died at the Spencer Hospital Monday. He was a former resident of Sioux County, Neb. but for the past three years has lived at Lusk.

He had been hospitalized for some time with a gangrenous condition of a leg following an injury to one foot and had undergone two amputations.

Funeral services are being held at the Peet Mortuary at 2:30 this Thursday afternoon with burial at the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Gaythe was born in Germany and farmed in Iowa before coming to western Nebraska. His second wife as well as several children by his first marriage survive. More complete details of his life will be published next week.

Funeral Services Held Here for John Gaythe Feb. 25

Final services for John H. Gaythe, 79, retired famer, were held Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, at the Peet Chapel with the Rev. F. C. Doctor officiating. Mrs. H. J. Templeton, at the organ, accompanied Mrs. A. B. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner as they sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Bearing the body to its final resting place in the Lusk cemetery were: Jalmer Thon, Henry Spinning, R. O. Bump, Wayne Unitt, John Lacy Jr., and John Tangen.

Prior to his death, Mr. Gaythe had been a patient in the Spencer Hospital for some time with a gangrenous condition of the leg. He died Monday, Feb. 22.

John Gaythe, son of John L. and Marie E. Gaythe, was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, July 6, 1877. On July 29, 1877 he was baptised in the Christian faith. His parents emigrated to the United States in 1881, settling first on a farm near O'Neil and Atkinson, Nebr. They later moved to Minden, Iowa.

The deceased came to Lusk in 1928 and on Jan. 7, 1930 was married to Mrs. Ara Canfield. They made their home in Sioux county, Nebr. from 1935 to 1950, at which time they moved back to Lusk.

He is survived by his wife, Ara, one son and daughter by a previous marriage, Harold Gaythe of Omaha and Mrs. Wilma Rush of Dupree, S. Dak., five stepchildren, Charlie Canfield, Lusk; June Jordan, Miles City, Mont.; Etta Belcher, Modesto, Calif; Rose Canfield, Turlock, Calif.; and Gertrude Weber, Olympia, Wash.; 18 grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Emma Felton, Chicago; and three brothers, Otto Gaythe, Avoca, Iowa, Charlie Gaythe, Lusk and William Gaythe, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Note: Both last name spellings Gathye and Gaythe are used in the obituaries of Ara, John and Charles.
