Mrs. Catherine Crelley, 78, Passes 24 Days After Husband

Mrs. Catherine Crelley, aged 78, passed away about 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning of this week, following a short illness just 24 days after her husband, Nicholas Crelley passed away.

Mrs. Crelley had been in her usual good health seemingly until the fore part of the week. She suffered an attack of indigestion Monday, however she rallied and appeared to be recovering satisfactorily. On Wednesday evening she suffered another attack and was removed to the hospital. She failed rapidly and passed away at 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Crelley came to Niobrara county in 1911, and for many years resided southeast of Node, retiring and moving to Lusk a few years ago. On September 28th, 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Crelley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. With the passing of her husband she seemingly lost her resistance and appeared contented to join her husband in the land beyond.

Mrs. Crelley was a kind and devoted wife and mother and throughout her life spread happiness to those about her. With her husband she had traveled over sixty years of wedlock and their fine family attests the happiness and contentment of their home such as is seldom reached in any community. Her life and her philosophy might well be the inspiration of all who seek happiness in life today.

Catherine Fretz was born in Benton county, Iowa, and grew to young womanhood in that vicinity. She was united in marriage to Nicholas Crelley, September 28, 1880, there being six children born to bless this wedlock, five of whom survive. The children are: Tom of Keystone, Iowa; Mrs. Porter Slattery and Mrs. Mary Muters, both of Spencer, South Dakota; Mrs. Florence Grimm of Lusk and Phil of Atlantic, Idaho.

Mr. and Mrs. Crelley moved from Iowa to Spencer, South Dakota several years after their marriage, remaining in that community eight years before they moved to Niobrara county.

Funeral services will be held at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22 with Father Andrews reading the requiem mass. Interment will be made in the Van Tassell cemetery beside her husband, to whom she was so devoted and who preceded her so short a time ago in the land beyond.
