Ray W. Chitwood

Word has been received here of the death of former Lusk mayor and businessman Ray W. Chitwood.

He died at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colo., in early August at the age of 80.

Mr. Chitwood, who was Lusk mayor for four years, established the Gambles store here, operating out of the old Lusk theatre building.

He moved from here to Boulder, where he owned and operated Chitwood Music Store, and then to Big Elk Meadows, Colo., in 1959. He moved to Longmont in 1968.

A native of Franklin, Neb., Mr. Chitwood was the son of Watson H. and Libbie Larrington Chitwood. He spent his early years in Franklin.

Mr. Chitwood was a member of El Jebel Shrine, Denver; the Masonic Lodge of York, Neb.; York Rite Bodies, Boulder; and central Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Blower, also of Longmont; a son Kenneth Chitwood of Greensburg, Ind.; a daughter, Jean Parsley of Boulder; a brother, Hugh O. Chitwood of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A service was held in Longmont and burial was at Mountain View Cemetery.
